Final Summary of 4/20 Call with GNFA re Response to Exemption RAI Date: Tuesday, April 21, 2020 2:36:00 PM On April 20, 2020, a call was conducted with Global Nuclear Fuel regarding additional information for an exemption request submitted by letter dated April 16. The following individuals participated in the call:

Kevin Ramsey, NRC Matt Bartlett, NRC Scott Murray, GNFA Jonathan Rohner, GNFA Brian Henderson, GNFA For unplanned contamination events that do not meet the reporting criteria in 70.50(b)(1),

the letter discusses 4 evaluations per year. The NRC staff asked if this was a quarterly meeting, GNFA staff said no. It was an estimate of 4 unplanned contamination events per year that are evaluated and determined not to be reportable. Granting the exemption will eliminate the need for this evaluation.

If an event is determined to be reportable, the total cost to complete the 24-hour report is estimated to be $12,000 per event. Then, the required 30-day follow-up report is estimated to cost $54,700. The total cost of a reportable event is $66,700.

The estimated cost savings of the exemption is $66,700 per reported event and an additional $40,000 per year for events not reportable.
