Dear Mr. Grace:
Please refer to L. M. Mills' letter to J. P. O'Reilly dated August 1, 1984 regarding Inspection Report 84-15 for our Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.
In response to item 5 of the subject inspection report, we committed to perform a reevaluation of the design basis and revise the technical specifications as necessary by March 2, 1985. However, the design study and associated work has taken longer than expected and any revisions to the technical specifications cannot be completed until May 9, 1985. Mike Hellums of my staff and Floyd Cantrell of your staff discussed this extension to May 9 on February 28, 1985. Such revisions submitted at that time would address the concerns of item 5 of the inspection report identified for the cable tray water spray system. TVA has elected to pursue the reevaluation of the design bases further. We anticipate completing this review by March 1, 1986. If the results of that study should reveal that design basis changes are necessary, the technical specifications will be changed accordingly at that time.
