NUCLEAR REGULA'IURY COPetISSION Washington, D.C. 20555 2
t Gentlemen:
Now we are being exhorted by our elected officials, and others, to I
scream loud and clear about the commission's determination to set a date for the restart of unit 1 at Three Mile Island. These misguided, and apparently uninformed, people want to delay the restart until all safety issues have been settled to the complete satisfaction of every paranoid in the country.
Surely, the members of the Commission are aware that there is at the present time almost no other method of producing electricity which is as safe as nuclear power. Why have public officials, including members of the Commission, not gone on record to this effect? Why has it not been pointe.d out time and again that "The country's worst nuclear accident" produced not one death, not one injury, not one sickness? Of course, we will never convince the die-hards of the truth, but if the same amount of money and time were spent in placing the facts before the public as is spent by the anti-nuclear crowd, the country could get on with the production of electricity and start looking to the future.
Very truly yours, l
