Columbia University in the City of New York New York, N. Y. 10027 SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING & APPLIED SCIENCE ome. of in. o..n So, gov 14 January 1985 sq - / AY Director Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Attention:
Document Control Desk
Dear Sir:
Although the TRIGA Mark II reactor at Columbia University was licensed in 1972, a series of circumstances has delayed any implementation of that license to bring the reactor into operation.
Because of changes in the financial demands on University operating funds that have taken place during the interval since 1972, it has been decided that it would be impractical for Columbia to operate that reactor within the foreseeable future.
Accordingly, on behalf of Columbia University, it is requested that the license to operate the TRIGA Mark II 250 kw reactor 4
sited in the School of Engineering be terminated. We note for your information that
- The reactor was never operated.
- The reactor was never fueled.
- There was never TRIGA fuel on site.
Sincerely, G-obert A.
