REFERENCE:

(a) Letter from Mr. A. E. Lundvall, Jr., to Dr. T. E. Murley, dated October 19,1984 (b) Letter from Mr. T. T. Martin, to Mr. A. E. Lundvall, Jr., dated October 25,1984 Gendemen:

We received your letter dated November 29, 1984, concerning the special inspection (50-317/34-26; 50-318/84-26), conducted at Calvert Cliffs on October 1-5, 1984. Your letter identifies an apparent deviation from a commitment to inspect the reactor coolant and pressurizer surge line piping. These items are addressed in Reference (a) and (b).

The Unit 1 pressurizer surge line was inspected on November 21,1984, to verify the As-Built support configurations. There were no deviations. 'As agreed, this same type of inspection will be performed on Unit 2 at the next cold shutdown, or the next hot shutdown which is expected to extend beyond 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
.

Although we do not agree with the need to inspect the Reactor Coolant System-hot and cold leg piping, the Unit I portions in the reactor coolant bays were walked down November 21, 1984. We will perform the same type of inspection on the Unit 2 reactor coolant piping.

The Inspection Report requested additional information on our intentions for inspecting inaccessible sections of pipe and supports. We believe that the information provided in Reference (a) is sufficient to close this item.
