Closure of 10CFR21 Report

Reference:

Kaman Instrumentation Letter KI-GEN-82-050, dated November 17, 1982

Dear Mr. Taylor:

Kaman Instrumentation Corporation has completed the design, manufacture and qualification testing of a High-Range Containment Area Monitoring System.

This system includes a mineral-insulated cable assembly which we had reported previ-ously as containing a possible defect.

Please refer to the attached reference letter for the 10CFR21 notification. A copy of the design qualification report (Kaman document 460036-002, Rev. A) is enclosed for your review.

We request your timely attention to the matter of determining the adequacy of the qualification document and generating a letter for our files indicating closure of the 10CFR21 report. At your preference, we would be pleased to receive your inspectors to review the control procedures and records that culminated in the successful completion of this product design and qualification effort.

Two utilities cited in the 10CFR21 notification have been notified of the qualification of mineral-insulated cable assemblies.

Please refer to attached copies of letters to Long Island Lighting Company for the Shoreham NPS and Arizona Public Service Company for Palo Verde NGS.

In the near future, we will notify Central Nuclear de Almaraz in Spain also.

- s Mr. James Taylor. April 2,1985 In addition to deliveries of qualified systems to Shoreham and Palo Verde, we are launching a major marketing program to offer this measurement system to the remainder of the U.S. nuclear utility industry. Our understanding is that nuclear plants have been operating on various interim plans awaiting a truly qualified system since the requirement was established by NUREG 0737 and REGULATORY GUIDE 1.97 for post accident monitoring.

If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact Mr.

PatrickMcMillin(Engineering)at(303)599-1669 or Mr. Warren Johnston (Marketing)at(303)599-1223.

Sincerely, fb t
