Subject:

NUREG-0737, Item II.B.3, Core Damage Assessment Methodology

Dear Sir:

By letter dated August 15,1984 [ Reference (c)], Vermont Yankee provided certain information regarding the post accident sampling capability at our facility and committed to prepare a methodology to estimate core damage following a severe accident.

By letter dated January 14,1985 [ Reference (e)], you transmitted your Safety Evaluation Report for NUREG-0737, Item II.B.3 which found that ten of the eleven criteria in Item II.B.3 were met.

The remaining criterion (Criterion 2) would be fully met by developing a final core-damage methodology based upon radionuclide concentration, taking into consideration other physical parameters such as core temperature data, radiation levels, and hydrogen concentrations.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that Vermont Yankee's Core Damage Assessment Methodology has been completed as required.

Completion of this Methodology closes out the remaining Vermont Yankee commitment for NUREG-0737, Item II.B.3.

Very truly yours, VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER CORPORATION g40201078504h272 1
