Nuclear Regulatory Commission BED MAR 26125 1717 H Street, NW Washington, DC 20555
Dear Gentlemen:
I understand that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) voted on February 13, 1985 that no additional hearings are necessary before the Commission decides on the restart of Three Mile Island-l (TMI-1).
I am glad to see that a final decision in this important matter may be made in the near future.
Only by fac ng the difficult questions directly and taking the appropriate action can the problems afflicting nuclear power in this country be corrected.
Public health and safety are ill served by endless procedural delays that add nothing to the substantive base of knowledge on which decisions must be made.
Fairness and public c ifidence require that a decision be reached as soon as the commission has the information needed to assure public health and safety.
I find it difficult to believe that after six years of intensive scrutiny by the NRC, the judicial system and the Congress, that needed information has not already been found and made public.
I would therefore urge the Commission to conclude its deliberations and announce its decision on the restart of TMI-l as soon as possible.
With all good wishes.
Srincerely
)
