Letter James G.

Jens, January 29, 1985

Subject:

Housekeeping and Staff Behavior In response to your reference (2) letter regarding general housekeeping and staff behavior in the control room of operating plants, I agree fully and support your position on these crucial issues.

During recent inspections conducted by your staff, I believe our efforts at good housekeeping have been acknowledged to be more than adequate.

We have promulgated practices and procedures as well as management scrutiny that will assure that these conditions will continue throughout the life of the plant.

In the course of these same inspections, your staff has commented on the professional attitude and performance of our control room staff.

To further enhance pride and professionalism, we have instituted a uniform dress code for the control room complex, with plans to upgrade the code after fuel load.

We have also promulgated a code of conduct in the control room complex that prohibits the reading of any material which is not work related.

In a ddition, we do not permit radios or other distractions in l

the complex at any time.

- One of our corporate goals for 1984 required that the Chairman of the Board, President, and I make periodic inspection: tours.of Fermi 2.

We have performed these

- inspections and are continuing to do so in 1985, with a commit' ment' to continue' this practice <during the life of the plant.' We also have a published company policy that encourages good, plant housekeepin'g.

'As an example of this, perhaps the next time you are in the area you would enjoy a tour of-our, Monroe' Generating Plant to witness, firsthand, e'

the cleanliness of this facility.

f

=I have appreciated the opportunity to discuss these issues with you.
