A basic requiron:nt of this system is that it stcrt autoncticcily, be et synchrencus speed and' rcted voltage, all within ten ( 70) seconds nitor the start signal.
To attain c high Icyc1 of stcrting relichility, the diesel engines in these goncreting sets cro equipped with certain redundcat subsystens; i.e., two coupletely separate ai starting motor sous ione munr.at.d.cn the icft bcnh af the engine and one mounted.en the right bank) and, in addition, two fuel ct1 supply pucps (one engine-driven and one me. tor O

Prior to shipment from the Electro-!!otive Division picnt, ecch gencrcting set - dergoes certain performance tests bcsed upon Engineerin, Tost Instruction Number. 416, entitled " Testing Modet 999 Genera. ting Piant Ur.ita," a copy of which is included in the Ar,pendix.
One series of tests involves a requirement that each unit must start,
{
reach rated speed and voltage within ten -( TO) seconds,
and accept locd one hundred (100) ' consecutive times with-1.',
cut failure (Part VII - Rc4ia.bi44ty Proof Teate '- ETI 4T6).
