Dear Congressman Gekas:
A member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Commissioner Asselstine, has. proposed that tube failure at Three Mile Island Unit One be investi-gated. However, we are uncertain as to whether the other NRC Commissioners will agree to investigating this matter.
We strongly urge that you request the NRC Commissioners investigate the causes and. consequences of tube failure at Three Mile Island Unit One. A partial list of questions concerning tube failure that we urge you obtain answers to include:
a.
What mechanism caused tube failure?
b.
Is tube strength sufficient for reactor operation?
c.
Will tube failure become a reoccurring problem?
d.
Is safety compromised by tube failure?
We are urging that you request an investigation into tube failure and especially consider the safety-consequences-of tube. failure.
