RESCHEDULED FROM APRIL 2020 TO SEPTEMBER 2020

Dear Mr. Curtland,

The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) routinely participates in licensees Emergency Preparedness Exercises to ensure that the NRCs incident response capabilities are effectively maintained and to provide licensees an opportunity to exercise the interface with the NRC during response to an incident at their sites. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our intent to participate in the Duane Arnold Energy Center Emergency Preparedness Exercise that was rescheduled to September 2, 2020, as a result of the Nations response to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus and COVID-19.

During the exercise, the NRCs response will involve activating various NRC response centers, as deemed appropriate. The NRC will dispatch NRC responders, as necessary, to your various response facilities to ensure a face-to-face presence at these emergency locations for monitoring, assessment, and information sharing purposes. If our scope of participation changes, we will contact your emergency preparedness staff to discuss the changes.

The NRC is available, at your request, to provide some or all the NRC pre-exercise outreach activities previously conducted March 4-5, 2020, again in preparation for the rescheduled exercise. These pre-exercise activities help site personnel understand the NRCs incident response activities.
