Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN-499 Submittal of Revised Response to Generic Letter 81-07, Control of Heavy Loads Houston Lighting & Power Company (HL&P) conducted a review of the load handling systems at the South Texas Project (STP) and on December 19, 1983 submitted a complete response for STP to Generic Letter 81-07. On July 2, 1984, NRC provided HL&P with a copy of the Technical Evaluation Reports prepared by EG&G Idaho, Inc. which described the results of their review of the Control of Heavy Loads Report for STP. As requested by NRC, a conference call was held on August 13, 1984 to address the comments generated by EG&G.

The enclosed Revision 1 to the Control of Heavy Loads Report for the South Texas Project reflects the resolution to the EG&G comments as discussed in the conference call. The resolution of each comment and corresponding revisions to the report are described in the Summary of Revision 1 at the beginning of the report.

The enclosed report addresses the load handling systems currently in the STP design and is considered a final report. As the STP design is not yet complete, there may be a need to add or modify load handling systems.

In the event this becomes necessary, the new load handling systems and any modifications to existing load handling systems will consider the guidance of Generic Letter 81-07.
