." Thomas T. Martin 5/10/84 Response to Item of Violation

'Public Service-Electric and Gas responded to the concern identified in the violation by' letter dated February 10, 1984.-

In that letter, we described the distribution and usage-of the document " Criteria-for Calculating' Expansion' Bolt Loads with Flat Plate' Supports".

Given the time. frame (August, 1979) that this document was used, we believe that appropriate controls were in. place.

Corrective Steps Taken and Results Achieved PSE&G has evaluated the document titled " Criteria for Calculating Expansion Bolt Loads with Flat-Plate Supports".

Based-upon this evaluation, we have concluded that this design input document was valid for the calculations to which it was applied.

Corrective Steps Which Will be Taken to Prevent Recurrence The design calculation control process is currently undergoing revision.

PSE&G will place emphasis on design calculations to ensure controls exist to perform proper verification and release of design' input.

These revisions will be issued by July 31, 1984.

Date When Full Compliance Will be Achieved We are presently in full compliance.

Sincerely, d

E.
