SUFFOLK COUNTY'S REPLY TO LILCO'S SUGGESTION FOR JOINT PANEL OF WITNESSES Suffolk County opposes LILCO's suggestion, filed on February 5,

1985, that the parties' panels on the EDG Load Contention testify jointly.

In a telephone conference yesterday among counsel for the parties, the Staff indicated it intended to have 8 or 9 witnesses on its EDG Load Contention panel.

The large number of witnesses and the diversity of issues would make' examination of a joint panel, even if comprised only of LILCO and Staff witness-es, cumbersome, difficult, and confusing.

This position has been conveyed to counsel for LILCO and the Staff.

The County's views do not, of course, apply to the possi-bility of a later joint panel of selected witnesses on particular defined issues, which the Board might find useful, as was done in the cylinder block hearing.
