Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director
-Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Subject:
Byron Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Braidwood Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Volume Reduction System NRC Docket-Nos.. 50-454/455 and 50-456/457 Reference (a):
January 9, 1985 letter from T. R. Tramm to H. R. Denton.
Dear 14r. Denton:
This letter provides supplemental information regarding the Byron /Braidwood volume reduction systems (VRS).
This information will be incorporated into the FSAR at the earliest opportunity.
The response provided in reference (a) to FSAR question 321.106 indicated that differential pressure alarms were installed
.on the VRS HEPA filters to alert.the operators of high dust loading on the filters. -The alarm is set to alert the operator in time to
. change the. filters before they become plugged to the point that-the VRS wiljl not operate..Upon further review of this matter with the
.NRC Staff we. understand that differential pressure gauges on these i filters would provide information which the NRC considers useful.
Although not_ essential ~to theLsafe operation of this system, differential pressure gauges will be installed on the HEPA filters.
Please address further questions regarding this matter to this-office.
Very truly yours, f$r fcA&v~
