20555 Attention: Mr. S. A. Varga Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Fire Protection Upgrade Response to 10CFR50.48 and 10CFR50, Appendix R Requirements Gentlemen:
Alabama Power Company submitted a letter dated December 21, 1984 providing a schedule for compliance with 10CFR50, Appendix R, III.G.1 and III.G.2. The referenced letter stated that all exemption requests for.all fire areas shared by both units and for all fire areas _in Unit 2 were to be submitted by the end of February 1985.
It was _also stated that a schedular exemption pursuant to 10CFR50.12 would be requested for any modifications not physically completed when exemptions are submitte'd in February 1985. This schedule was developed prior to the current Unit 2 third refueling outage that has been extended due to unforeseen circumstances. Therefore, the completion of the analysis and development of the exemption requests has been delayed. Alabama Power Company will submit the exemption requests for all fire areas shared by both units and for all fire areas in Unit 2 by March 13, 1985. At that time, a schedular exemption pursuant to 10CFR50.12 will be requested for any modifications not scheduled for completion in Mar::h 1985.
