U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region V 10 July 1992 Division of Radiation Safety and Safeguards 1450 Maria Lane, Suite 210 Walnut Creek, CA 94596 Attention:
Mr Ross Scarano, Director
Subject:
Annual Summary of Changes, Tests and Experiments at Aerotest Radiography and Research Reactor (ARRR),
Docket No.
50-228, for period 1 July 1991 through 30 June 1992 Dear Mr.
Scarano:
The enclosed report summerizes the ARRR operations from July 1, 1991 through June 30, 1992.
This submittal complies with the requirements set forth in 10 CFR, part 50.59,
" Authorization of Changes, Tests and Experiments".
Summary forms of monthly operations and unscheduled power reductions are included.
As shown in the summary table of unscheduled shutdowns, most of the events were occasioned by spurious scrams (finally determined to be due to an insulator problem).
Also the other shutdowns were caused by the fact that all of the electronics are aged non-solid state units.
A new thirteen cubic feet domineralizer was installed in
~
the demineralizer stage.
This was done to minimize the frequency of resin changes.
No new or unusual problems have been noted during the year and reactor operations have remained stable with respect to safety and reliability.
Very truly yours, AEROTEST OPERATIONS, INC.
