USNRC Bulletin No. 92 01, dated June 24, 1992, Tailure of Thermo-Lag 330 Fire Barrier Svstem to Maintain Cabling in Wide Cable Trays and Small Conduits Free from Fire Damage"

Subject:

Response to 14RC Bulletin No. 92 01 1

Gentlemen:

NRC Bulletin No. 92-01 discussed fire endurance testing failures associated with the Thermo Lag 330 fire barrier system, requested operating reactors using Thermo-Lag fire barriers to take specific actions, and required licensecs to provide a written response.

Thermo-Lag 330 fire barrier ystems are not utilized at Seabrook Station. Selected redundant safe shutdown circuits at Seabrook Station which are routed through common fire areas are enclosed in conduit and wranped with a 1-hour fire-rated wrt.p.

The conduit wraps are an approved 3M flexible endothermic wrap system. Inside Containment, stainless

-steel faced mat and stainless steel foil-tape are used. Elsewhere, aluminum faced mat and aluminum foil tape are used. The smallest fire rated wrt.pped conduit at Seabrook Station is one inch in diameter. Cable trays do not contain cables of redundant circuits requiring the protection of a fire b: trier system. Therefore, cable tra3s at Seabrook Station are not wrapped.

We trast that the above information provides the requested response to NRC Bulletin on this matter, please No. 92-01 for Scabrook Station.

Should you have any questions contact Mr. James M. peschel, Regulatory Compliance Manager at (603) 474-9521 extension 3772.

Very truly yours, s
