The evaluation of Ginna Station's 1983 ETC SRO Audit Exam and the 1983 NRC administrated SRO exam indicates many similar or identical questions.
In some cases, the question was changed by only a word which though sounding similar changed the question, such as provide the automatic action vs. provide all the actions.
Each question was carefully compared between the two exams and those appearing on the NRC exam were listed in Attachment 1.
I indicated the point value for each question and differences in questions I did not consider identical.
Next, the point values of each section and total for the exam were determined.
Using the point value of identical questions, the similarity of the exam sections and overall was determined.
The total point value was found to be 102.25 points rather than 100 points indicated on corrected erams.
The total similar/ identical exam questions was 38.5 points or 37.6% of the exam.
Section 5 contained 24 points rather than 25 points indicated on corrected exams.
The similar/ identical exam questions were 19.5 point or 81% of section 5.
Section 6 contained 25 points and no similar/ identical exam questions.
Section 7 contained 28.25 points rather than 25 points indicated on corrected exams.
The similar/ identical exam questions were 9 points or 31.8% of section 7.
Section 8 contained 25 points.
The similar/ identical exam questions were 10 points or 40% of section 8.
Many of the exam questions were standard questions addressing important knowledge areas.
In each case, the student expects the area to be addressed and therefore anticipates finding one question concerning the information.
Some examples of these question areas are:
Emergency Planning Radiation Exposure Limits Reactivity Effects Shutdown Margin Natural Circulation S/G Shrink and Swell CCW Leak Indications / Actions SI Initiation Identifying Emergencies i.e. LOCA ECP Calculation / Deviation RCS Leakage Requirements Section 5 19.5 of 24 points 81%
Section 6 0
of 25 points 0%
Section 7 9
of 28.25 points 31.8%
Section 8 10 of 25 points 40%
Total 38.5 of 102.25 points 37.6%
