Gentlemen:
Pursuant to 10CFR55, Appendix. A, paragraph 4.a. Alabama Power Company has been conducting annual written examinations as part of its requalification training program. The requalification training program consists of simulator and classroom training.
Based on' discussions with the NRC Staff, administrative procedures were established to-ensure that the -
written examination is given within two months of the previous year's examination. This bracket of time allows for flexibility in the scheduling of the classroom training while ensuring that the written examinations occur at a nominal one year interval.
In 1984, the written examination was given -
in May/ June.
Refueling outages are scheduled to commence in January 1985 for Unit 2 and in' April 1985 for Unit 1.
The close proximity of these outages will necessitate a.d' lay in the start of the classroom training until.May 1985.
The earliest possible time for the written examination to be given would then be during the five week period connencing the third week of October 1985.' 'This schedule allows for adequate staffing during the refueling outages and completion of:the classroom training program.- It should be emphasized that'the simulator portion of requalification training program is still scheduled to be conducted during the two refueling outages noted ~
