Dear Mr. Denton:

River Bend Station - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-458 Enclosed for your review are twelve (12) copies of the final Design Review and Quality Revalidation (DR/QR)

Report for the Transamerica

Delaval, Inc. (TDI) diesel generators installed at River Bend Station.

This four volume report was

prepared, approved and submitted to Gulf States Utilities (GSU) by the TDI Diesel Generator Owners' Group Technical Staff.

Additionally, the TDI Diesel Generator Owners' Group Program has made recommendations concerning component maintenance and surveillance.

These recormendations have been assembled from i

manufacturers manuals and the component DR/QR surrmary reports.

l These maintenance and surveillance recommendations are outlined in Appendix II of this DR/QR report.

GSU recognizes that although the recommendations of this report are not requiremente, their adoption will give added that the TDI diesel generators installed at River Bend assurance Station will perform their intended function for the life of the plant.

These recommendations represent a conservative approach to insuring diesel genera +or reliability.

In some specific

cases, however, GSU may propose alternate means and justifications of insuring the reliability of the diesel engines l

which deviate from the recommendations of the TDI Diesel l

Generator Owners Group.

These specific cases are currently under revieu and will be identified to the Staff by January 31, 1985.
