ULNRC-999 SHIFT SCHEDULES CALLAWAY PLANT DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 Ref: (a) ULNRC-903 dated August 8, 1984 (b) Ltr. B. J. Youngblood to D. F. Schnell dated September 26, 1984 Reference (a) informed you of our interim shift rotation schedule to support power ascension testing. Reference (b) provided a safety evaluation and acceptance by the staff of this schedule on an interim basis.
Effective January 6, 1985, we are returning our operations department to an eight-hour, three-shift-per-day schedule, with five shift rotations. Although our current staff numbers in each operating position would support a normal shift complement for six rotations, over the next several months, the number of equipment operators per shift will be held at 5 or 6 in order to maintain close surveillance of plant equipment during initial operation at high power levels. Added shift personnel in this and other positions will also allow more rapid completion of outstanding work requests. During this interval, licensed personnel will continue to receive training on the average of one week in every six.
As we have discussed with you, in the long term, we most likely will employ a six shift rotation. However, we remain interested in the twelve hour shift plan employed by Duke Power Company and will continue to evaluate this concept.
A chart is attached which portrays the interim five shift schedule.
