Dear Mr. Koval:

As I indicated during a telephone conversation with Mr. George Fetchko of your department on December 6,1984 there wre two noncompliances of NPDES Permit No. PA 0027448 in November 1984, at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station. On November 28, 1984 the level of fecal coliforms discharged was 240,000 colonies /100ml with the limit being 2,000 colonies /100ml. Also, on November 29, 1984 total suspended solids discharged was 36 mg/l with the permit limit being 30 mg/1. There were two reasons for these noncom-pliance s . The first and probably prime reason was that one bed was taken out of service for much needed maintenance during most of the month limiting treatment capacity by one third. In addition the record reason for the noncompliances rerouting of flows in the sewage treatment plant because of surge tank pump failures. At present all three beds are operating and the pumps have been repaired.
