Concrete is normally the best foundation although substantial steel frame supports may be used. The recombiner is attached.to the customer supplied support structure by 8 - 1 inch diameter bolts (not supplied by W). The bolt hole pattern is shown on ' E Orawing #AP-7070-1. (Ref. Appendix B) The reco2iner should be located in such a manner that l there is adequate area around the unit for maintenance. such as minimum heater puli space, etc. The recomended f minimum maintenance area is shown on E Drawing #AP 7070-1. Other items to be considered when selecting the' location - of the recodiners are:

1. They must be located in the containment such that they process a flow of containment air containing hydrogen at a concentration which is generally typical of the average concentration throughout the containment. .
2. T5ey should be located away from high velocity air streams, such as could emanate from fan cooler exhaust ports, or they must be protected f,3m direct impingement of high velocity air streams by suitable barriers such as walls or floors.
3. They should be located such tnat any incident effecting one unit will not effect the other one; thus maintaining an independent ndundant system.-

4. Tney should be located in an area of the contaimnE:nt Iq such that they will be protected from high energy missiles or- jet imingement from broken pipes.

3.1.1.1 Recombiner Electrical' Connections The recordiner has an electrical junction box mounted on the lef t hand side of the unit (Ref. W Drawing #AP-7070-1). This box contains the electrical leads from the heaters. The box is f astened to the recombiner by 4 - 1.25 inch cap screws. In order to allw maximum flexibility in establishing incoming power lead runs the junction box is not pre-drilled. To drill the box for the pwe,r conduit entrance, remove the box and drill to suit. All heater leads { Phase 1. 2, 3 and neutral) are fastened together by bolting through the Burndy indent type lug terminals. To connect the in-coming feeder, use Burndy indent type lugs (or O~ equivalent) on the feeder leads, and bolt to the appropriate heater lead phase or neutral bundle lugs. Reference E Drawing #1366C51 in Appendix B for wiring diagram. A ground pad is provided on the base of the re-combiner. As a standard safety a ground strap should be connected to the ground pad and to-an adequate ground. h 'O ,, 0067796 20*d 0085td.rt **** 009-51 XS$3bd **** 12:60 8861/r0/0T 3.1.1.2 Thermocouple Connections e The thermocouple junction box is mounted on the lx side of the recombiner in the same general area as the electrical junction box. It contains a . terminal board to which the chromal-alumel thermocouples are connected to one side of the terminal strip prior to the recontiner leaving the factory. A 1/2" coupling is provided on the side of the box for the purpose of running the thennoccuple extension leads (not provided by g) from the other side of the tenninal strip, to the temperature read out instrument on the hydrogen recombiner control panel. l IMPORTANT: In order to obtain proper temperature indication, the extension leads must be conn' ected to the appropriate term-inal points, i.e. the color code must be maintained. Reference E Drawing ) #1366C51 in Appendix B for wiring ( diagram. '3.1.2 Power Supply Panel Installation The power supply panel for each recombiner should be located in the reactor auxiliary building such that any incident effecting one of the panels will not effect the othe r. Each panel is designed so that it can be set on it's base and bolted, via 1/2" #13 Socket Head Cap Screws, directly to an appropriate support structure. The bolt hole pattern and physical dirnensions of the panel are shown on E Orawing #AR-4070-1. (Ref. This allows maximum flexibility when making the field cable runs for the recontiners. NOTE: A)) input power leads (not supplied by K) must be connected in their proper phase sequency to tem-inal board No. TB2. All output power leads (not supplied by W) must be connected in their proper phase sequence to terminal boards No. TB3 and TB4. The interconnecting leads between the power supply panel and control cabinet must be made on TBl. All of the above indicated terminal boards are appropriately marked to indicate proper terminal points . Reference 1 Drawing MP 5070-1 for wirfog schematic. (See Appendix B) IMPORTANT: The EHRS has an ungrounded electrical system. Ho ground should be connected to any electrical conponent in this system. Personnel safety grounds should be connected only to the copper grounding bus bar provided in the front base of the power supply panel. 3.1.3 Control Panel Installation The control panel for each recon 61ner should be located in the main reactor control room such that any incident effecting one of the panels will not effect the other. NOTE: If another location of the control panels is desired yES-NSD should be cor:ulted.
