February 2,1996 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Commissioner Shirley Jackson 11545 Rockvule Pike Rockville, MD 20852
Dear Commissioner,
4 As a customer of Comed in LaSalle county, I have enjoyed excellence in service that is becoming of the positive reputation Comed has worked hard to build. I desire that this excellence continue.
However, the potential strike by Comed employees in the LaSalle county plant not c,nly jeopardizes the quality of service available, but my safety as well. The last thing we need in the Heartland of America is an American version of Chernobyl. A strike by skilled and experienced workers at the LaSalle plant potentially puts our homes and families at risk.
In the aftermath of the Chernobyl tragedy it was discovered that persons who i
should never have been at the controls and making decisions were allowed to do so. And the restis history.
What will you do to ensure the safety of the citizens of the United States of America in LaSalle county of Illinois?
If unskilled and inexperienced workers are hired at the LaSalle plant, everyone, including Comed, will be at risk. On behalf of the citizens of LaSalle county, I ask that you ensure our safety in this matter.
If Comed must cut their expenditures in order to survive as a company, they should do so in areas in which the quahty of their work will not suffer or put the public in danger. Creative solutions to the problems that Comed is facing must be sought so that a strike can be avoided and the safety of the public is secure.
Thanks for considering my concerns. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely, nGv/ fDustudwd WO 9603040008 960221
