ENCLOSURE 1 CURRENT STATUS

SUMMARY

OF SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT i UNITS 1 AND 2 WITH REGARDING TO 10 CFR 50.49 The current status summary of Sequoyah unita 1 and 2 with regard to 10 CFR'50.49 is provided in table 1.

Sequoyah unit 1 As provided in enclosure 2, Sequoyah unit 1 during its second refueling outage (February 20, 1984 through April 17, 1984) lacked 166 replacement components due to procurement / delivery-related and installation-related problems. TVA has currently been averaging replacing two to three non-outage components per week on Sequoyah unit 1. If possible, TVA will continue to work non-outage components during power operation. In addition, TVA is currently

~

scheduling an approximately 16-day ice weighing outage on Sequoyah unit 1 during the later part of April. TVA currently plans to replace approximately 50 percent of the remaining Category IV components during the outage. TVA has committed to be in compliance with 10 CFR 50.49 by startup following the unit 1 cycle 3 refueling outage which is currently scheduled for September 1985, but in no event later than November 30, 1985.

Sequoyah unit 2 Since our November 7 and 21, 1984 letters to NRC, we have reduced the number of Category IV components by one item. TVA plans to replace this component at the earliest. practical time, but in no event later than November 30, 1985.

TVA believes Sequoyah has acted in good faith in reducing the number of Category III and IV components for both units and will continue to qualify these items as soon as possible. (Based on our understanding of the environmental equipment qualification required by 10 CFR 50.49, Sequoyah will be in full compliance with those requirements no later than November 30, 1985 for both units.)
