'O' Northem States Power Company 414 Nicollet Mall Minneapohs, Minnesota 55401 Telepnone (612) 330 5500 November 29, 1984 Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PIANT Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Request for Change in Submittal Date for Detailed Control Room Design Review Summary Report and SPDS Implementation Schedule Update The results of the NRC's in-progress audit of the Detailed Control Room Design Review for the Prairie Island Plant indicated that insufficient time may have been allotted for assessment of Human Engineering Discrepancies and selection of design improvements prior to submission of the Summary Report. NSP agrees with this concern and requests an extension of one year for submittal of the summary report, from January 1, 1985 to January 1, 1986. NSP will submit a status report by January 31, 1985. The report will contain:
1.
A summary of our progress to date since the March, 1984 in-progress audit.
2.
A detailed response to the concerns, recommendations, and information needs identified in the in-progress audit report.
3.
A description of the control panel modifications planned to be com-plated during the 1985 Unit i and Unit 2 refueling outages.
l We request that the completion schedule for item 2b in the NRC's June 14, 1984 Order Confirming Licensee Commitments on Emergency Response Capability Schedules (Generic Letter 82-33) be amended to reflect this schedule revision.

-It also appears at this time that the completion schedule for item ib in the NRC's June 14, 1984 Confirming Order may not be met.
Due to vendor sof tware design delcys, the dates for SPDS implementation may slip. At this time the vendor is not in a position to update the software develop-ment schedule, therefore, NSP cannot evaluate the impact of the delay on the currently specified implementation dates.
By June 30, 1985, NSP will submit a request for extension if needed.
Please' contact us if you have any questions related to our request for a change in schedule for submittal of the control room design review summary report.
