The following summary is provided in response to the Reference 1 letter regarding spurious fire alarm activations during 1995. This summary is provided as the result of a

commitment made to track spurious fire alarm activations for a period of five years ending in 1996. The following two (2) work requests were initiated as a result of the fire alarms activating for unknown reasons.
W.R. # 950056540 - Unit 1, Reactor Building, 786 Elevation, Fire Detection Zones 1-36, and 1-37. The fire alarm activated and could not be reset. No apparent reason could be found in the field. A work request was written on June 30th,1995 to investigate the alarm.
Detes. ion Zones 1-36, and 1-37 were taken Out of Service (OOS) and Fire Impairment
- 0180-95 was initiated to document the fire detection impairment. The work was completed on 7/10/95. The apparent cause of the alarm could not be determined. The entire circuit was tested and all the components functioned as required. The alarm did however reset after the circuit was de-energized. No additional problems have occurred on these zones.
W. R. # 950093365 - Refuel Floor UV Fire Detectors. These detectors were spuriously alarming for no apparent reason. A work request was written on September 21,1995 to 9601290436 960119 Dy PDR ADOCK 05000373 Q

- investigate the alarms The cause of the spurious alarms was determined to be that the alarm setting on the detection system was too sensitive. The sensitivity setting was adjusted as recommended by the vendor manual. The work was completed and the system tested satisfactory on October 12,1995. No further spurious alarms have occurred on this system.
