Reference:

Shot peening of Diesel Crankshaft, No. 101 Gentlemen:

In response to your inquiry, we would like to confirm that Almen Strips were run af ter each four (4) hours of peening time.

As the los shows this is not equal to clock time.

)

For exanple time spent repositioning the crank shaf t in order to peen different areas was not counted.

The four (4) hour requirement is actually better than the MIL SPEC which only requires an Almen Strip every eight (8) hours of operation for cast steel shot.

)

In reference to your other question on shot analysis /

maintenance, the MIL SPEC only requires a screening to check for broken particles every two (2) hour's.

This was actually done every time the equipment was reloaded (approximately every hour).

The analysis we submitted as back-up was a complete screening for size to insure the shot used complete-ly met the MIL SPEC prior to use.
