Dear Sir:
SUBJECT:
10 CFR 21 Report of a Potential Defect Related to Public Service Company of New Hampshire - Seabrook Station and Supply System - WNP 1 On August 7, 1981, UE6C submitted a report of a potential de-feet pertaining to slippage of raceway support bolted strut fittings.
UE&C has since submitted four status reports, the last on December 6, 1983. In those reports, specific actions and programs adopted for the satisf actory resolution of the problem were presented. This report summarizes the progress made toward the completion of those programs.
For the WNP Unit 1, the review activities for the cable tray supports have been completed. The review confirmed that only a limited number of modifications were required because of design conservatisms.
Due to the construction deferment, modifications are postponed.
Design review activities for Seabrook Station have been-completed. The review indicates that retrofits are required. The specification of these retrofit activities and the actual retrofit will be completed prior to fuel load.
In summary, all design activities relating to the original fitting deficiency are completed and programs to implement any necessary modifications formally identified and all progress monitored. We assume that any follow-up activities will be monitored by your regional inspec-tors. Therefore, we do not plan to issue any future progress reports on the subject deficiency. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to confact us.
Very truly yours, 8412020052 841126 DR ADOCK 05000443 PDR

- a. Engineering design calculations, utilizing the documented -
test results, to determine the required retrofits are
- complete for both the cable tray- and conduit support activities. To minimize the number of changes required, the recommended modifications are being reviewed against actual field conditions.- The resulting calculations and drawing release is continuing, but at a reduced rate due to the project slowdown..
- b. Retrofit of cable tray support fittings with insufficient capacity was begun but was curtailed in April,1984.
- 2. WNP-1 UNIT
- a. Structural evaluations which identified necessary modifi-cations for the cable tray supports are complete. lRie -
results of these evaluations are documented in a report entitled " Seismic Analysis and Qualification of Seismic Category I Cable Tray Systems" (Report No.
6702-C-EE-3E-01-F, Rev. 1; March 30, 1984).
- b. Structural adequacy has been confirmed for. the conduit supports. No additional action'is required.
