Dear Dr. Murley:

NRC IE BULLETIN 78-02 TERMINAL BLOCK OUALIFICATION HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION Our March 27, 1978, reply to Bulletin 78-02 stated that unprotected terminal blocks will not be used in tha systems which must function in a post-accident environment.

It was noted in Region I Inspection Report 50-354/82-01 that events subsequent to the Inspector's last review of this Bulletin required that panels inside containment be vented to prevent collapse in a post-accident environment, thus exposing the terminal blocks.

PSE&G has an on-going Equipment Qualification Program which meets the requirements of 10CFR50.49 and NUREG 0588.

Terminal blocks for Hope Creek are subject to qualification in accordance with this program.

For terminal blocks located in vented panels or other vented enclosures, the environment inside the enclosure will be the basis for qualification.

The Equipment Oualification Program is expected to be completed by September 1985 with 95% of the balance of plant equipment and all of the NSSS equipment data available by April 30, 1985.

Should additional information be required prior to completion of the Equipment Oualification Program, we will be pleased to discuss it with you.

Very truly yours, 6

J.
