KMLNRC 85-042 Re: Docket No. STN 50-482 OL Ref: Letter KMLNRC 85-006 dated 1/4/85 from GLKoester, KG&E, to RPDenise, NRC Subj: Supplemental Response to Inspection Report STN 50-482/84-49

Dear Mr. Denise:

The Reference transmitted Kansas Gas and Electric Company's (KG&E) response to the violations documented in Inspection Report 84-49 This letter pro-vides supplemental information to clarify KG&E's response to Violation 84/49-01, " Failure to Protect Material", and Violation 84/49-02, " Failure to Adequately Control Temporary Modification".

Subsequent b. the time of Violation 84/49-01 all plant buildings have been transferred tc; the jurisdictional control of KG&E Operations. This includes the implementation of the operations fire protection program. The require-ments of the operations program are considerably more stringent than the construction program which was in effect at the time of the violation.

Subsequent to the time of Violation 84/49-02, control of all work activities has been placed under the controls of the operations Work Request program.

This program requires the evaluation of each work activity for impact on plant equipment and operation, including review by the appropriate quality organization and approval by the Shift Supervisor prior to commencing work.

Additionally, Inspection Report 84-49, our originalresponse, and this supple-mental response are in the process of being routed to all Plant Safety Review Committee (PSRC) members as required reading for their review and dissemination to their groups as appropriate.

Yours very truly, Ebb xc PO'Connor (2)
