installation.
The purpose of this letter is to update the status of Commonwealth Edison's (CECO) decontamination of LaSalle's Radwaste Tank rooms ano the replacement of levelinstrumentation associated with LaSalle's Waste Sludge and URC Sludge Tanks.
These items were initially discussed within the Reference (a) Inspection Report and the Reference (b) Management Meeting and previously updated within the Reference (c) and (d) letters. The six rooms that are the basis of discussion are as f ;llows: 1) ' ',it 1 Floor Drain Tanks; 2) Unit 2 Floor Drain Tanks; 3) Unit 1/ Unit 2 Dircharge Tanks;,)
Unit 1/ Unit 2 Collector Tanks: 5) Unit I Chemical Waste Tank; and 6) Waste Sludge /URC Sludge Tanks.
As of July 29,1992, decontamination work has been completed on the last of the six subject rooms. Contamination levels on the floor of the Uni? 2 Floor Drain Tank Room have been reduced to acceptable levels. Tne lessons learned from cleaning the other room floors allowed LaSalle to significantly ieduce the actual dose expenditure to clean the Unit 2 Drain Tank Room Floor.

-2 LaSalle Station is evaluating replacing the two concentrator waste tanks,
- located on the 734' elevation in the Radwaste Building. Tank inspection are necessary to support the preliminary enginearing. LaSalle plans to utila the valuable experience and the ALARA good practices learned from the cleaning of the six tank room floors in reducing the source term in thes a tank rooms.
To reduce the likelihood of future tank overflows, LaSalle Station has installed new level instrumentation in the URC Sludge Tank and the Waste Sludge Tank. The improved instrumentation includes both sludge level and water level indicators. The finaiinspections and testing of these instruments has been satisfactorily completed, and the instruments are operable. It is expected that the new design will eliminate avoidable spills within the Waste Studge/URC Sludge Tank room.
Commonwealth Edison believes that the completion of these actions has addressed your concerns, if there are any questions please direct them to this office.
