Gentlemen:

The reference letters provided, on behalf of the SNUPPS Utilities; i.e. Union Electric Company and Kansas Gas and Electric Company, generic responses to IE Bulletins 83-06 and 83-07. Both respcnses reported that, on the basis of prior Westinghouse investigations, neither Westinghouse nor their primary NSSS equipment or material suppliers, had purchased materials from Tube Line Corporation or Ray Miller, Inc. On the basis of Westinghouse confirmation to that effect, no further actions.were considered necessary.

Recent discussions with Westinghouse suggest that the scope of their (West-inghouse) investigations regarding use of materials from these two material suppliers was not as complete as originally indicated. As a result, addi-tional actions have been requested of Westinghouse to examine all equipment and material suppliers likely to have procured materials of the type fur-nished by Tube Line and Ray Miller. These additional investigations are being undertaken on a priority basic 'nd are scheduled to be completed within the next several weeks. Ths fvsults of the follow-on effort will be forwarded to the NRC as soon as it is completed.
