Dear Mr. Denton:

Attached is an evaluation of endangered species in the vicinity of the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant and its associated transmission lines. This

.is submitted in. response to Elinor G. Adensam's letter dated August 7,1984.

This evaluation addresses the occurrence of the bald eagle, wood stork and red-cockaded woodpecker.

The operation of the plant and associated transmission facilities is not expected to impact these species. The specialized habitat requirements for bald' eagle nests and wood stork colonies (rookeries), are not found on site.

Known colonies of the wood stork are discussed in the attached evaluation and

.shown to be no closer than 10-15 miles of the site or its associated transmission lines. Known bald eagle nests are discussed in the attached and also shown to be no closer than 10-15 miles from transmission line rights-of-way. The red-cockaded woodpecker also has a very specialized

-habitat requirement as described in the attached evaluation. None of this habitat is found on site. State officials and other experts on the red-cockaded woodpecker have been contacted to determine known historical or active red-cockaded woodpecker colonies. No impact on known historical or active red-cockaded woodpecker colonies has been identified. Aerial and-ground surveys of transmission line rights-of-way have been and are continuing to be conducted. If any colonies are identified within the proposed transmission line rights-of-way, we will contact your staff.
