UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 The Honorable John A. Barrasso Chairman, Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate Washington, DC 20510
Dear Mr. Chairman:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is publishing the following document in the Federal Register:
Title:
Alternatives to the Use of Credit Ratings (NRC-2017-0021)
- Description of the document: The NRC is issuing an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) to obtain input from stakeholders on a proposed rule to amendment its regulations for financial assurance mechanisms for the decommissioning of nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities. This action would implement the provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010, which directed agencies to amend their regulations to remove any reference to or requirements of reliance on credit ratings. The ANPR will be published in the Federal Register soon for a 30-day public comment period.
For more information, see the enclosed document.
Please contact me at 301-415-1776 if you have questions or need more information.
Sincerely, Eugene Dacus, Director Office of Congressional Affairs
