==13=reLe 965 Chesterbrook Boulevard Wayne, PA 19087 5691 January 5,1996 Docket No. 50-352 License No. NPF-39 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 1
Subject:
Limerick Generating Station, Unit 1 Revision of Inservice inspection Interval Dates for the First Ten-year Interval Gentlemen:
By letter dated Aprli 6,1995, PECO Energy informed the NRC of its plans to revise the dates of the First Ten-Year interval Inspection (ISI) Interval for Limerick Generating Station (LGS), Unit 1, in order to effectively implement the requirements of Section XI of the American Society of j
Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel (B&PV) Code. In our April 6,1995 i
letter, we indicated that the revision in dates was necessary in order to allow the end of the inspection interval to encompass the next scheduled LGS Unit 1 refueling outage (i.e., Sixth Refueling Outage - 1 ROC), which is currently scheduled to end by March 1,1996.
i The LGS, Unit 1, First Ten-Year inte val ISI Program conforms to the 1986 Edition of Section XI of the ASME Code, as required by 10CFR50.55a(g)(4). The 1986 Edition of the Code (i.e., IWA-2430(d)) stipulates that an inspection interval can be extended by as much as one (1) year. The LGS, Unit 1, First Ten-Year interval ISI Program began on February 1,1986, and is currently scheduled to end on March 1,1996, as discussed.
However, PECO Energy has subsequently determined that it is necessary to again revise the dates for the First Ten-Year ISI Interval for LGS, Unit 1. This change is necessary in order to facilitate the preparation and implementation of ASME Code pressure tests (i.e.,Section XI, Subsection IWA-5000) that are now required as a result of the NRC's recent approval of ISI Program Relief Request No. RR-13, Revision 2, for the LGS, Unit 1, as documented in an NRC letter dated October 5,1995.
Since the ASMr C(xle permits the extension of an inspection interval by up to one (1) year, PECO Energy now plans on ending the LGS, Unit 1, First Ten-Year ISI Interval on or before February 1,1997, upon successful completion of the necessary pressure tests related to Relief Request No. RR 13.
