Coatings Inside Containment

.In accordance with our telephone conversation of June 28, 1984, Detroit Edison committed to provide NRR with an assessment report of the Fermi 2 primary. containment coatings.

This report was to address the qualifications, quantities and types of coatings used within the containment and the potential safety implications'of any unqualified:

coatings.- We have' completed-this assessment, with the assistance of a consultant-and a recognized coating expert, and are herewith transmitting for your information, the report titled " Evaluation.of Containment Coatings", Report RNo. DECO-12-2191".

-Based on this extremely conservative assessment, Edison concludes that the coatings currently applied within the i

primary containment are adequate and appropriate and will l

not adversely affect the safe operation of the plant.

To reflect the information provided in the report, to remove ambiguity, and to document as-built coating applications and qualifications, the applicable specifications and appro-l priate FSAR sections (i.e., Sections 3.8, 6.2 and Appendixes l

A and E) will be revised with an upcoming amendment.
