Subject:
Investigate reported crack in bedrock under Perry nuclear plant.
I hereby request that you have the Nuclear Regulatory Commission immediately investigate, and determine if there is a crack in the bedrock under the Perry nuclear power plant in North Perry Village, Ohio; and if one or more such cracks are found, to determine what safety hazards this poses for the Perry plant, and the public, including any increased risk of radioactive material, such as air pollution gases and particulates, radioactive waste, and radioactive liquid waste, being released from the plant by whatever effects an earthquake could or would have on the crack (s) which could or would result in increased damage to the Perry plant, or its radioactive waste storage structures, causing or increasing such radioactive release into the environment.
Larry Leonard claims, in his new book " Death Spiral", that more than 100 construction workers saw a crack in the bedrock at the Perry plant site in 1975, about 30 feet wide and 20 feet deep, and that the Perry plant owner, Cleveland Electric liluminating Company (CEI) filled the crack with concrete and kept it a secret. Larry Leonard is a former employee of CEl's holding company, Centerior Energy Corporation, in investor relations.
Leonard's book can be ordered from Leonard for $29.5G (this price includes tax and shipping costs) by writing him (with payment enclosed) at P.O. Box 450919, Westlake, Ohio 44145-0920.
It would be an irresponsible, negligent cover-up by you and the NRC if you and the NRC refuse to investigate this. The NRC's record of endangering public and worker health and safety for the convenience and profits of the nuclear industry makes you people criminals, legally protected by a corrupt series of Presidents and members of Congress. In the March 13,1995 Federal Register the NRC admitted (in rcsponding to a rule-making petition from me to reduce NRC's radioactive pollution radiation dose limit to the public) it permits thousands of cancers annually amcng the American public from radioactive pollution, from NRC-regulated manmade, non-medical sources, including nuclear power plants, industries and consumer products.
Please reply in writing promptly.
