Subject:

Final Evaluation of 10CFR50. 55(e) Item 120 "NPS Industries Inc. Pipe Support Components With the Same Part Number" Detroit Edison has completed its investigation of Item 120 and has determined that it is not reportable under 10CFR 50. 55 ( e ). This item concerned NPS Industries, Inc. (NPSI) supplying different sizes of pipe support components which utilized the same part number. Item 120 was origin-ally reported as a potential deficiency on March 19, 1984, and was subsequently documented in Reference (2). This situation was discovered during installation of two NPSI sway strut rear brackets. Two support assembly brackets had the same part number but different dimensions. The plate dimension (the part fastened to the structure) for one bracket was 10" x 10" and the plate for the other bracket (a new part) was 7" x 9". It was subsequently learned that NPSI had changed the physical dimensions of other parts, issued new data sheets, and shipped the support assemblies to customers. The parts retained the same part number, but the parts' size, thickness, etc. may have changed. j 8408300223 840815 PDR ADOCK 05000341 S PDR i l AUG 2 0 198e 9;0 o o
