" Environmental Qualification of Class IE Equipment".
By letter dated May 19,1983, with subject, " Response to 10CFR50.49, Electrical Qualification of Electrical Equipment important to Safety of Nuclear Power Plants", Monticello provided commitments for qualifying safety-related equipment. Within Appendix A of this letter, it was stated that the following HPCI System equipment would be replaced with qualified equipment during the 1984 refueling outage:

NUMBER COMPONENT MANUFACTURER MODEL PS-7312 Pressure Switch Square D 9012-ACW22 SV-1 Solenoid Valve Skinner L2DB5150 Subsequent to the May 19,1983 submittal, the existing components wero qualified in accordance with DOR guidelines contained in I.E. Bulletin 79-01B rather than replacing them as stated in our May 19,1983 letter. Final qualification was documented in Monticello EQ Calculation Files. Until this December 18,1995 letter, the NRC had not been informed of our deviation from the 1983 stated commitment.
As part of the Monticello design basis verification, Monticello Site personnel identified that contrary to the above stated licensee commitment to replace the equipment, the existing equipment was instead qualified by calculation.
This letter revises the original NRC commitment (Monticello commitment No. M83030C) to:
PS-7312 and SV-1 will be environmentally qualified in accordance with the DOR guidelines, Attachment 4 of NRC l.E.Bulletin 79-018.
