- i',72."l' August 16, 1984 Docket Nos. 50-277 50-278 Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut
-Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Conmission Washington, DC 20555
SUBJECT:
NRC Generic Letter 84-15 Extension Request
Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
Philadelphia Electric Company has evaluated the requirements of NRC Generic Letter 84-15.
In order to meet these requirements, the licensee has determined that an extension of time for submittal of the information will be needed. As outlined in the generic letter, extensions are allowed, provided such requests set forth a proposed schedule and Justificatico for the delay.
We are requesting an extension of the final submittal date for our response to the subject letter untt i Novenber 1,1984. This extension is required to allow: 1) the collection and assessment of the most recent diesel testing data, and 2) the development of a comprehensive action plan for Peach Bottom.
The requested time extension is warranted since the Peach Bottom diesel generators have a well docunented record of reliability. These diesels are exercised on a weekly basis.
In nearly 2000 tests from 1973 to 1981, only 14 failures to start and attain load were experienced. This performance record indicates greater than 99%
reliability with an 85% confidence level and is exceptional in the industry. We anticipate no significant deviation from this figure when analysis of the more recent test data is canpleted.
