The Honorable Nunzio J. Palladino Chairman U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 1717 H Street, N'.W.

Washington, D.C.

20553

Dear Mr. Chairman:

Thank you for your July 9, 1984 letter concerning erroneous Technical Specifications for commercial nuclear power reactors.

While your letter was interesting, it is not fully responsive to my June 1, 1984 request for detailed information on instances, in those plants licensed since Three Mile Island, in which errors have been identified in Technical Specifications subsequent to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff approval of those Technical Specifications.

Your response states that some isolated problems have occurred but provides no details as requested.

A more complete response would still be helpful.

In particular, I would be interested in learning about the substance, significance and scope of errors at the Susquehanna and McGuire facilities mentioned in your letter.

Please explain when any errors were first identified; when, or if, they were corrected; and, any cause(s) of the errors which may have been identified.

Additionally, your letter mentioned three actions initiated by the NRC staff for near term operating licenses.

I would ap-preciate learning @ detail the results of these initiatives.

Please grovide any documents, including reports and memoranda, resulting from the contractor reviews, regional inspections and licensee certifications cited in your letter.

~ Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely, Edward W Mar y
