Dear Mr. Collins:

River Bend Station-Unit 1 h

Docket No. 50-458 Final Report /DR-137 Gulf States Utilities Company (GSU) has completed its evaluation of DR-139 concerning potentially defective springs in Models PSA-1 and PSA-3 mechanical shock arrestors supplied by Pacific Scientific.

_ Physical testing at faulted and full load indicated that the springs with microcracks were sufficiently sound to provide their intended function. Nevertheless, the snubbers were rotated and requalified by Pacific Scientific to be suitable for their intended use.

GSU has therefore determined that this condition is not reportable under 10CFR50.55(e).

l Sincerely, b
