Subject:

Amended Response to Notice of Violation "A"

(NRC Inspection No. 50-293/84-03)

References:

BECo Ltr. 84-72, dated May 17, 1984, " Response To Violation and Proposed Imposition of Civil Penalties"

Dear Sir:

Review of the subject Inspection and our subsequent response has led us to i

conclude that additional corrective acilon to preclude recurrence of Violation "A" is appropriate. This letter is therefore submitted as a supplement to the reference and outlines additional corrective action Boston Edison Company has taken to ensure compliance with 10CFR20.203(f).

Although not specifically related to the incident of January 14-18, 1984 involving the unlabeled container of high radiation material, our Health Physics organization has recently reviewed Procedure 6.1-024, " Radiological Posting of Areas of the Station," from the perspective of compliance with 10CFR20.203(f). As a result of this review, the subject procedure was revised on July 18, 1984 to provide more specific guidance to Health Physics personnel regarding labeling of radioactive material containers. This procedural change, having been communicated to Health Physics personnel, will ensure compliance with 10CFR20.203 as they apply to present and future Station activities.
