By letter dated September 17,1993, Southern Nuclear Operding Company (SNC) outlined plans to modify the Farley Nuclear Plant Unit I and Unit 2 Rod Control System current order timing to reduce the probability of an uncontrolled asymmetric rod withdrawal in the event of the failure identified at Salem Nuclear Power Station. In addition, Farley committed to review applicable Rod Control Systan test procedures to ensure that the procedures conformed to the recon r.caded Westinghouse guidelines for demonstrating system operability including no single unAmble failures. NRC letter dated December 17,1994 requested that the Staff be notified when Farley implemented the current order tmung modificatum and the current order surveillance test. SNC letter dated June 19,1995 provided the work completion notification for Unit 2. 'Ihis letter provides the requested response for Unit 1, wherein the Rod Control System tinung changes were implemented during the thirteenth refueling in fall 1995. In addition, the Farley Rod Control System engineering test procedure, which includes the enhanced acceptance criteria based on Westinghouse guidelines, was used to verify system operability during Unit I startup activities.
