'On July.3, 1984, during scheduled surveillance activity, and July.ll, 1984, during post maintenance surveillance, testing, the Licensee experienced : invalid failures on Diesel-Generator' Unit " A",
XEG-0001A.'.Both invalid failures 'were because of High Jacket. Water
. Temperature resulting from the malfunctioning of the jacket water temperature control valve.
Following_the. unit shutdown on July 3, 1984, the jacket. water cooling. system was drained; the temperature control valve was disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled.
The-jacket water cooling system was filled.and vented, the unit was satisfactorily tested and declared operable at 1240 hours0.0144 days <br />0.344 hours <br />0.00205 weeks <br />4.7182e-4 months <br />, July 3,1984, total time inoperable ~- 9 hours1.041667e-4 days <br />0.0025 hours <br />1.488095e-5 weeks <br />3.4245e-6 months <br /> 33 minutes.
Th'a Licensee voluntarily entered the Limiting Condition for

- The unit shutdown at approximately:1640 hours because of High Jacket Water Temperature.
The_ jacket water cooling system was. drained and t flushed, 'the temperature Leontrol valve internals were replaced, the unit was tested and declared operable at 2315 hours0.0268 days <br />0.643 hours <br />0.00383 weeks <br />8.808575e-4 months <br />, July 11, 1984,

fj On June 14,-1984, the Licensee submitted Special Report 84-007 b
.which identified a failure of the. jacket water temperature control valve on June 1, 1984.- It is suspected that the temperature excursion caused by fouling damaged the _ valve internals and
.contributedEto_the invalid failures described herein.

The Licensee has had zero valid failures on the subject unit,- and I
the current surveillance test interval is every 31 days.
