SUBJECT:

Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station NPDES Permit #SC0030856 5-Day Written Notification

Dear Sir:

This letter is to provide the required written 5-day notification for exceeding a discharge parameter as described in the Virgil C.

Summer Nuclear Station NPDES Permit #SC0030856. The required 24-hour notification was made to Mr. Andre Stanley at approximately 1400 hours0.0162 days
0.389 hours
0.00231 weeks
5.327e-4 months
on July 26, 1984, by Mr. Ricky Marchant.

Discharge Points 005 and 010 (Treated Sanitary Effluents) were analyzed on July 25, 1984. The Total Suspended Solids (TSS) analyses on both points were completed at 1450 hours0.0168 days
0.403 hours
0.0024 weeks
5.51725e-4 months
. The reported TSS values for Discharge Points 005 and 010 were 52.1 mg/l and 54.0 mg/1, respectively. Both values exceed the 45 mg/l limit.

The cause of the out-of-specification value on Discharge Point 005 was loss of power to the aerator caused by a tripped circuit breaker during the night of July 24, 1984. This condition was found and corrected on the morning of July 25, 1984.

The cause of the out-of-specification value on Discharge Point 010 was a clogged diffuser on the aerator. This condition was corrected on the morning of July 26, 1984.

Both discharge points were re-sampled July 27, 1984, to determine the effectiveness of our corrective action. The results were well within specification at less than 10 mg/l for both discharge points.
