Vogtle Electric Generating Plant-Units 1 and 2, 50-424, 50-425; Pullman Construction Industries Duct Support Shop Welds Attention: Mr. James P. O'Reilly On June 14, 1984, Mr. R. E. Folker of Georgia Power Company reported a potentially significant deficiency to Mr. V. Panciera of the USNRC con-cerning the lack of full penetration welds on some HVAC duct supports.

While performing a modification to an installed duct support, a contractor discovered some partial penetration welds on tube-to-tube butt welds that should have been full penetration welds as specified in the shop detail drawing. The contractor submitted a deviation report to Georgia Power Company.

Georgia Power Company NDE personnel performed ultrasonic tests on seven (7) duct supports of the same type that had not been in-stalled, and found indications of partial welds on all specimens.

At this time, Georgia Power Company is performing additional NDE examinations to help determine the extent of this concern. This infor-mation will be used by the architect-engineer in the engineering evalua-tion for this subject. At this time, a final schedule for the resolution of this subject is being developed.

Georgia Power Company will submit an interim report to the USNRC on or about August 29, 1984, that will furnish the expected completion date for this evaluation.
